Puerto Caucedo, Dominican Republic
This project
required the construction of an entire
container terminal
on a Greenfield site and included a 950m breakwater to protect the
14m deep port basin and its 600m long berthing quay, a container
yard, port facilities, and other infrastructure.
In September 2004
the passage of Hurricane Ivan caused considerable damage to the port
including settlement of the breakwater's armour protection.
The remedial works
involved the removal, inspection and storage of 4,000 armour blocks
to 44 tonnes, the reshaping of the rock core through the placement
of 30,000 tonnes of rockfill, and the repositioning of the removed
armour blocks.
ICC were retained to
assist in the evaluation and quantification of the claim.
