Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline, Georgia

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Pipeline, Georgia

The 1765km long BTC oil pipeline provides a strategic link between the Caspian oilfields and the Mediterranean.

The US$300 million central section, through Georgia, includes 248km of 46” steel pipe, pumping stations, valves and  metering facilities.

The claim arose from the identification, during construction,  of  hydrogen induced cold cracking to approximately 200 pipeline welds.

ICC were commissioned to investigate the admissibility of a claim under the project insurance.  Our advice included analysis of cause, policy coverage, claims handling strategy, and included advice on the most appropriate legal advisors given the nature and legal jurisdiction of the claim.
