The 28.4km long
Guadarrama Tunnel, costing €1.1 billion, is a key part of the
strategic high speed rail link between Madrid and Galicia and
carries the high-speed line beneath the Sierra de Guadarrama
mountains.
The twin bore, 9.5m Ø, single track tunnel is being constructed through hard rock using
four telescopic double-shield TBMs. The bores are separated by a 30m rock
pillar and connected by cross passages every 250m. The tunnel
lining comprises a 320mm by 1600mm eight segment pre-cast concrete
ring.
ICC are providing
expert tunnel engineering services in relation to a
multi-million euro claim involving one of the four TBMs.
